Synopsis

Ana is twenty years old, living in a "lower" village in northeastern Romania, with her only treasure a jar of honey hidden behind a sheepfold. When Mihai arrives at the village fair—the gray car, the broad laugh, the questions no one has ever asked her—she believes her life is beginning.
She has just stepped into a trap set by patient craftsmen.
From Budapest to the boulevards of Paris, for five years, Ana will come to know the exact mechanics of trafficking: the debt that is never paid off, the fake sister, the blue notebook where everything is counted—and the lock that is installed inside a human soul. Until the day when, in a suburban stairwell, an old lady with a tartan shopping bag stops and looks at her.
There are two ways to break bonds. Ana will come to know both.
